Time to Talk What You Need to Know About Your Child Speech and Language Development (Audible Audio Edition) Michelle MacRoyHiggins PhD Carlyn Kolker Callie Beaulieu Tantor Audio Books

Love this book!! It's one of those books that I think every parent of young children should have. It really helped answer my questions and concerns in a very calm and non-alarming way. I liked how easy it was to find specific sections about development that you were going through with your own child. You don't have to scroll through the entire book to find what you are looking for each time!! I liked the tips about what to do at home and all the information about which therapists/ specialists to see. I also liked the chapter on literacy -- it helped me know what my child "should" be doing but wasn't alarmist.

A definite must have!

This book is so well written that you actually enjoy reading it! Full of practical tips on how you can help your kids, it also explains developmental milestones children should be going through in terms of how they communicate. We have bought copies for every young parent we know who wants the confidence, knowledge, and practical help to support their children in learning to communicate.
My 3.5-year-old, extremely verbal son just suddenly started stuttering last week -- completely out of the blue. It made me very nervous. This book was so helpful. The concrete, specific information, presented in a clear and easy-to-understand manner, helped me to assess how common the problem is, how serious it is, what to look for to determine whether/when I should contact a professional, and how to help my son in the meantime. I felt better equipped to handle the situation, and I even passed the advice along to his teachers. Highly recommend!
This book is really written to help parents. It actually explains the information you need to know about how language acquisition works and what milestones your kid should be hitting. It's easy to read and it's easy to just skip right to the information you want.
If you are worried or just curious about your child's hearing, language acquisition or speech, this book is the place to start. It is written in a clear, accessible style that presents lots of info but is never overwhelming. It does a great job of describing hearing and speech issues without being alarmist, which is good if you are already worried about something, so you can avoid freaking out more. Also it cites evidence and research throughout, which is reassuring. Highly recommended for those interested in this topic.
